David Wright's LONDON PROBATE INDEX:

is another major finding aid. Covering over a century from 1750-1858, its 70,000 entries cover wills and administrations for all London and Middlesex probate courts (except the PCC). Its coverage is wide-ranging and includes testators and intestatees from all five continents, the whole of the United Kingdom, and, of course, Kent itself. If you have hit a brick wall with London research and can find no probate entry in the PCC series, this index offers the only other chance of locating informative probate records for people living in the capital. Including, as it does, records relating to the Bishop of London, this means that it also includes thousands of entries for seamen and soldiers, always noting the service ship or army regiment. Searches are £5 a surname (plus SAE) for up to 10 entries , any balance being supplied at 50 pence an entry. A photocopying service for the full original entries is priced at £15 for singles, £12.50 each for two or more from the same court, and £10 each for any six or more. Larger orders are by negotiation. For a detailed article about the index and its contents, see the Genealogists' Magazine, September 2001.

EAST KENT BURIAL INDEX:

Genealogists ignore burial registers at their own peril, for death created more records in a person's life than any other single event (death certificate, will/administration, coroner' s report, cemetery or church register entry, obituary, and many others). The national Burial Index is now well under way, but does not impinge upon the author's EAST KENT BURIAL INDEX. This enormous index comprises 128,000 entries, and covers the entire Diocese of Canterbury from 1813 - 1841, including all parochial and nonconformist registers. Many research problems will be solved as every entry gives full name, place of burial, place of abode (often far away, sometimes in London), and the crucial age at death from which the year of birth may be estimated. Covering over two decades before the civil registration period, it is usually the only source for a person's age if no monumental inscription exists. Searches are £5 a surname (plus SAE) for up to 10 entries , any balance being supplied at 50 pence an entry .
